Llamas as pets? Not everyone would keep Llamas as pets; but then, not everyone CAN! Keeping such Pets is a relatively new idea and demands from you a huge amount of space (outside your house). Usually, Llamas are considered as livestock, but once they gain your trust, they can be friendly, calm (lovely looking too) and they get along with people quite well.

Like with all pets, Llamas need a lot of care, attention, proper food and shelter. Llamas can be amazing pets and owners usually give them the needed attention and care from day one. A good quality green pasture is the norm as far as food goes. Hay and vitamin supplements should also be given. Good care should be taken and a veterinary doctor should come on his rounds once in a while. As far as housing goes, a barn during winter and a three sided shelter during summer should be fine.

Llamas aren’t classified into breeds. Llamas themselves are of a particular species. They are usually classified based on their hair type, body shape and temperament. Their life span can range from 15 to 30 years. Llamas can be trained easily, and some of their natural talents lie in pulling carts and guarding sheep and other livestock.

So hope that, getting to know your Llama well and building the trust your Llama has for you, will give you that faithful and helpful companion.
