Horses And Ponies

Having a horse as a Pet can be one of the most wonderful and rewarding experience both for kids and adults. Especially, for a kid; having a pony can develop his personality in many ways because it needs lot of caring and understanding to breed a horse and have a good relationship with it. A pony is a small type of horse and is a different breed. Horses and ponies are measured in terms of “hands”. Horses are about 17 hands tall and ponies are usually between 11 and 14 hands tall.

Not everyone can have these pets. Keeping a Horse or a Pony requires a lot of time and attention from your part (lots of space too). Horses have to be trained in the proper way and it is important that your horse builds trust and respect for you. As for the food requirements, a good quality pasture is the most natural food. Hay and grains are also to be given.

Horses like to follow a leader while in training. So don’t give in to the horse’s testing (by acting bored or lazy during training). Horses and ponies are amazing Pets to have because they are fast, intelligent, loving, faithful and much more not all pets can take you for a ride.

Horses can be described in many ways; breeds, types and the purpose they serve. Popular breeds of horses are the Thoroughbred, Gelderlander and the Arabian. Among ponies, a popular breed is the Shetland (good for kids), Welsh and Connemara.

Whether it is a horse or a pony you choose, of whichever breed, given the proper care, food, shelter and training, you get a faithful friend that’s by your side for life.
