Dogs have been a trusted companion of men for centuries. As Pets dogs can be loving, loyal, playful and helpful. Keeping a dog as a Pet is a huge commitment; so, it is important that you get the right dog for your family.

When selecting a dog, you may notice some physical traits common to each breed. Some good traits of certain type of breeds of dogs are its size and the type of hair. But there are some bad traits too, like health problems and over-breeding etc.

Each dog breed is different from the other. Some Dog Breeds may require you to take them for a walk, some may require you to spend loads of time grooming it and some may want to be petted and cuddled forever. But owning any dog breed is a long-term commitment which slowly results in loyalty and friendship between the dog and its owner. Along with this friendship comes the basic responsibilities of the owner; like providing shelter, food and the proper care to keep the dog safe and healthy at all times. Also, the dog must be trained to obey.

From a puppy to a dog, you will have to spend time together so that it builds respect and trust for you; but if you don’t have the time, you can still send it to a local dog club where it can be trained. A trained dog is always a pride to own and may go along well with your neighbors.

If you think the Labrador retriever breed is too “big” for your house then you might choose something like the German shepherd breed or the Dachshund. Whichever dog breed you choose, you get a loyal friend.

A good way to find a good breed is to contact your local dog breeder. You could find such professionals in the Dog Breeder Directory or through the Kennel Club.
